Following acclaimed seasons and rave reviews across North American and the UK, Mark St Germain’s theatrical adaptation of The Happiest Man on Earth will have its Australian premiere at the Sydney Opera House in May 2026.
Directed by Therèsa Borg, this deeply moving production brings Anton Berezin to the stage to tell the extraordinary true story of Holocaust survivor Eddie Jaku OAM, as adapted from his international bestselling memoir of the same name.
“This piece of theatre was always going to be a needed piece on Australia’s grandest stage, Eddie was a local hero, a giant of a personality,” said Rabbi Alon Meltzer, Shalom Collective.
“The importance of learning about the Holocaust and the importance of rising above the trauma to aspire and hope for a better world is a message the world has always needed to hear, but even more so in the aftermath of the antisemitic terror attack in Bondi.”
