An American president and a couple of inventors get lost in the woods…
It sounds like the beginning of a joke, but it’s actually the premise of the thought-provoking play “Camping with Henry and Tom” by playwright Mark St. Germain, now receiving an impressive production at Palm Beach Dramaworks.
The Henry and Tom referred to in the title of the play are Henry Ford and Thomas Edison; the person who goes camping with them is President Warren G. Harding. The camping trip really happened back in 1921, and St. Germain, utilizing personal philosophies and the facts of each man’s life, uses that event as a springboard to create not only a detailed snapshot of three men who shaped America, but also to bring them to life through fascinating and often terrifying conversations about the trio’s lives and the state of the country.
