Bio
Jordi Galceran (Barcelona, 1964) studied Catalan Philology at the University of Barcelona. He started writing plays in 1988, directing some of them himself in amateur venues.
In 1995, for the first time, he decided to submit his two most recent scripts to play competitions. PARAULES ENCADENADES (WORD PLAY) (1995) won the 20th Born Theatre Award (organized by the Artistic Circle of Ciutadella, Menorca) and the Serra d’Or Critics Award for Theatre in 1997. DAKOTA (DAKOTA) was awarded the Ignasi Iglésias Award in 1995 by the Institut del Teatre of the Diputació de Barcelona.
Original Plays
DAKOTA (THE DAKOTA DREAM) premiered in October 1996 at the Teatre Poliorama in Barcelona, in a production by Tr3sxTr3s, and later in Spanish and Basque at the Tanttaka Teatroa. The script received the Premi Butaca (Audience Choice Award) for best new play for the 96-97 theatre season. DAKOTA premiered in Madrid in January 2004 at the Teatro Albeniz, starring Carlos Hipólito. DAKOTA has also been produced in Guadalajara, Mexico.
PARAULES ENCADENADES (WORD PLAY) premiered at the Teatre Romea in Barcelona in January 1998 in a co-production with CDGC and Focus. The script also received the Premi Butaca for best new play. The Spanish version, PALABRAS ENCADENADAS, has been presented in Madrid, Buenos Aires, Medellin, Santiago (Chile), Miami, and Mexico City. The play has also been adapted into the film PALABRAS ENCADENADAS (KILLING WORDS) under the direction of Laura Mañá.
SURF (SURFING) (1990) premiered in February 1998 at the Villarroel Teatre in Barcelona, produced by the Teatre a la Deriva company.
FUITA (ESCAPE) (1994) premiered at the Teatre Principal in Barcelona on December 3, 1998 in a production by Vània Produccions. The Spanish version premiered in November 2007 at the Yorick Teatre, in Alicante, Spain.
GAUDÍ (GAUDÍ) (2002), a musical, premiered in October 2002 at the Barcelona Teatre Musical in a production by Focus, CIU, and Iberautor. The work was written in collaboration with Esteve Miralles and Albert Guinovart. GAUDÍ received the Premi Butaca for best musical.
EL MÈTODE GRÖNHOLM (THE GRÖNHOLM METHOD) (2003) premiered in May 2003 under the direction of Sergi Belbel in the Projecte T-6 of the Teatre Nacional de Catalunya. In September 2004 the play opened again in both Barcelona and Madrid for extended open runs. In 2005, a Spanish film version of the play, EL MÉTODO (THE METHOD), was released starring Eduardo Noriega. With theatrical productions taking place in and planned for thirty different countries, EL MÈTODE GRÖNHOLM has been seen by more than two million spectators world-wide.
PARADÍS (PARADISE) (2000), a musical adaptation of Civilitzats, tanmateix, by Carles Soldevila, written in collaboration with Esteve Miralles and Albert Guinovart, premiered at the Teatre Condal in Barcelona in December 2005. Paradís won the Premi Butaca for best musical.
CARNAVAL (CARNIVAL) (2005), a police thriller, premiered October 2006 in the Teatre Romea in Barcelona, in a Focus production directed by Sergi Belbel. The Spanish premiere was in March 2008 at the Teatro de Bellas Artes in Madrid, directed by Tamzin Townsend.
CANCUN (CANCUN) (2007) is Galceran’s latest play, premiered October 2008 in the Teatre Borras in Barcelona.

Television, Film & Narrative
In addition to writing for the theatre, Galceran has worked a television writer for Televisió de Catalunya. His television writing credits include writing for the television shows NISSAGA DE PODER (POWER RACE), LAURA, LA MEMÒRIA DELS CARGOLS (SNAIL MEMORIES), LA SAGRADA FAMÍLIA (HOLY FAMILY) and writing five movies for television: DUES DONES (TWO WOMEN), CABELL D’ÀNGEL (ANGEL HAIR), GOSSOS (DOGS), CÀMPING (CAMPING) and SERRALLONGA.
Galceran also wrote the screenplay for the 2005 Filmax release FRÁGILES (FRAGILE), a thriller directed by Jaume Balagueró.
Galceran is also credited with creating and writing the popular Catalan soap opera, EL COR DE LA CIUTAT (THE HEART OF THE CITY), which has already aired more than 1500 episodes.
Galceran has also written several short stories published in the collections Germans Miranda.
He is frequent contributor of La Vanguardia, a leading newspaper in Barcelona.
